Gwi

Safety Smartband

Safety Just a Click Away

The Gwi bracelet is wearable technology with the function of an emergency button. When the button is pressed, an SMS message is sent to your previously configured trusted contacts; this message contains the location in real time and records the user's past locations every 30 seconds, reducing waiting times for emergency calls.

In Mexico, insecurity is a significant concern. In 2018 alone, the National Institute of Geography and Statistics INEGI reported that 71.3% of women in the country feel unsafe, and many are victims of sexual harassment on a regular basis. For this reason, we collaborated in designing and developing a low-cost smart gadget that helps women be within reach of their families and friends in an emergency.

Gwi was designed with two goals: to keep it as discreet and comfortable as possible while keeping production costs low to ensure accessibility for as many people as possible. By defining these design constraints, we created a faster and cheaper alternative than other wearables or tools currently available on any smartphone.

In 2016, the Gwi project was awarded the People's Choice Award at the Pitch to Rich Mexico event, an initiative focused on Mexican startups, organized by Virgin Mobile and hosted by its founder Richard Branson. Four years later, Gwi was featured on the famous TV show Shark Tank Mexico.
